Saturday, January 28, 2006 ::: Wanted to catch Memoir of a Geisha, but only the first row left, so I'm not paying to get dizzy by seeing Ziyi Zhang blown out of portion. So in order to justify the taxi fare Hen and I retreated to have afternoon tea instead. And I remember there's this new cafe that opened some while ago... that's Cova. it's quite amazing that Cova's line is actually longer than Spaghetti House's. Are people in HK getting really rich or what? Can somebody explain why there's a long damn line outside of Cova? It's not that I'm jealous cuz I can't afford Cova. It's just that I don't understand why people would prefer to queue up for a place which charges you $60 for a slice of cheesecake served with a long queue when I can enjoy clam soup, pasta AND tea for the SAME PRICE somewhere else, under the same roof. Quite amazing isn't it? And that resonates in our conversation. Who wouldn't want to be the Cova among doctors or lawyers. Who wouldn't want to create and own a line rather than be in the line. Who wouldn't want to dish out the same piece of cheesecake and charge much more for it while people actually like the fact that you're charging more and they're coming to you for the same reason. Or maybe people want to believe that there's a better chef behind the identical looking cheesecake. Whatever. As long as you've got what it takes to convince people that paying more is better than paying less you're always a winner. In a few minutes it'll be the year of the Dog. something's already been different: 1. There's a new priest for our church. Great, and hopefully that means even better sermons. 2. It is now acceptable to greet people by saying 'Happy New Year' in English for Chinese New Year. Don't. You. See?!?!?! That's really interesting. Not wrong, but interesting. 3. I'm trying to adopt the habit of going to bed earlier. That means before 2 am. And this change might be reflected in my next filling in for our colleague's next questionnaire on comparing sleeping habits for different universities. 4.
